Mangalbare (Ilam):

Tea farmers in Ilam district have called on the tea factories to maintain uniformity in the tea price.

A gathering of tea farmers held recently voiced this demand citing that they were having to bear losses due to lack of uniformity in the price of freshly picked tealeaves.

It is said that tea factories located east of the local Mai River and those located to the west of it have different price for the green tealeaves that they buy from farmers. A tea farmers cooperatives at local Barbote pays Rs. 45 per kilogram for the first grade tealeaves and Rs. 35 per kilogram for the second grade tealeaves.

The tea factories to the east of the Mai are said to pay in the range of Rs. 40 per kilogram to Rs. 60 per kilogram for green tealeaves. But some factories are said to pay Rs. 30 to 40 per kilogram. RSS
